Wemberly Worried
He's done it again! Kevin Henkes has brilliantly captured a child's nature in Wemberly Worried. Not only has he done that, but he has provided a great piece of literature for timid kids to confront their anxieties. I think a worrisome child could easily identify with many of Wemberly's fears, and thereby get sucked into the resolution.
Henkes is too apt a student of human nature for a perfect fix. What he presents instead is how one little mouse takes a step toward courage from fear in a way that can give a child impetus to do the same.
I think this is one of those books that is great for strategic use with an anxious child - and a fun book for anyone, whether worrisome or not.
