No more naps?

Elisabeth has been resisting naps for the last week or so, which has left me without the afternoon time to which I've been acustomed to work, blog and email.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to help a toddler self-soothe to sleep in the early afternoon?

I don't have any personal experience with toddlers but my sleep help book says that moving bedtime slightly earlier may help the toddler to more naturally feel their need for that wind-down time in the afternoon, if they have started to refuse that nap. There is an extensive explanation for why that is given that I won't try to summarize. But it does say to try moving bedtime earlier in 20 minutes increments and if it does not effect the morning wake up time then it will likely help with the afternoon nap.

Sounds strange, but I'm just relaying what I read.
This info is from Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Marc Weissbluth.

Thanks, Lauren. That's exactly the kind of input I was looking for. We'll try it out!
